Context & Challenge: Urban Renewal in a Shifting Landscape 

 

Astoria Shopping Centre in central Istanbul had become disconnected from its urban context and underperformed commercially. Avcı Architects redefined its identity and energy through physical and experiential transformation, guided by deep analysis of users, access, and spatial quality in one of the city’s densest zones.

Astoria’s transformation was guided by Avcı Architects’ 3E Sustainability Framework: Ethical: Addressing social expectations by prioritising public realm and inclusivity, Ecological: Minimising the environmental impact through material and operational strategies ,Economical: Enhancing long-term value through adaptive use and infrastructure efficiency. These principles ensured that each architectural decision was both locally responsive and globally relevant — from façade articulation to indoor zoning, to terrace design and vertical circulation.
