Master Plan Design Approach

The Cité Gouvernementale master plan organizes ministry buildings around a central public piazza, anchored by the Gate Building and Shopping Center, with a City Hotel linking to Place de la Liberté. Fifteen-story towers mark key entrances, while the first phase focuses on the Gate Building, Shopping Center, and Hotel, establishing a new civic and commercial district.

The design responds to Brazzaville’s humid, rainy climate with sheltered walkways, passive cooling façades, energy-efficient systems, and integrated greenery to ensure comfort and sustainability.

Climate-Sensitive Design for a Resilient City

Brazzaville’s humid, rainy climate shapes the design with sheltered walkways, shaded façades, and passive cooling strategies. Energy-efficient systems with heat recovery and zonal lighting reduce demands, while preserved trees and native plantings reinforce a sustainable urban landscape.

A visionary master plan shaping Brazzaville’s urban future through public space, sustainability, and architectural identity.

The project introduces Brazzaville’s first major civic square, a terraced, green, and shaded public space that fosters social interaction while becoming a new cultural and civic landmark for the city.

A Public Piazza for a Growing City

Brazzaville currently lacks a major ceremonial public space, and this project introduces a new urban typology that will resonate with the city’s residents. A carefully terraced design, descending towards the Ravin de la Glacière, creates intimate social spaces and gradual visual connections to the landscape. Public gathering areas, shaded by canopies and green corridors, encourage interaction, rest, and civic engagement. This new urban square not only serves as a focal point for the development but also establishes a cultural and civic landmark for Brazzaville’s future.
