Emona: Myth and Reality

Slovenia, Ljubljana
2010

Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, carries a unique historical heritage through its Roman predecessor, Emona. More than just an ancient city, Emona is linked to a legendary origin story—the myth of the Argonauts. This exhibition explores both the myth and the everyday reality of Emona’s past, weaving together narrative, architecture, and historical artifacts.

Bringing Emona’s myth to life through a fusion of history and design.

The exhibition brings Emona’s myth and daily life alive with Roman-inspired spaces and vibrant fresco colors.

Design Approach

The exhibition spaces follow the myth’s storyline, letting visitors step into the legend. A glowing elliptical form protects the Argonauts’ tale, while another area revives the daily life of Emona’s citizens. Inspired by Roman architecture, the design recreates Emona’s urban spirit with city walls for strength, a forum for civic life, a triumphal arch for grandeur, and a triclinium for domestic intimacy. The color palette, drawn from Emona’s frescoes, surprises with richness and vibrancy, reviving the ancient city’s artistic soul.
