SUMMA HQ OFFICE
Located in Istanbul’s Central Business District, SUMMA HQ is the adaptive reuse of a near-derelict structure—transformed into a modern, high-performing headquarters. Faced with restrictions on new construction, the design embraced these constraints to deliver a seismic retrofit, full façade renewal, and interior redesign. The result is a light-filled, efficient workplace that reflects SUMMA’s global identity and forward-thinking vision.

The existing structure—abandoned and deteriorating—became the foundation for a bold architectural renewal within Istanbul’s business core.
Transformation Approach
A strategic transformation working within the limits of an inherited structural grid.
SUMMA HQ’s design process was defined by its constraints: existing structural conditions, fixed floor heights, and strict planning regulations. Instead of demolishing and rebuilding, the team reimagined the structure with surgical precision—implementing seismic upgrades, enhancing daylight access, and introducing a refined architectural language through contemporary façades and open-plan interiors. The building now serves as a showcase for sustainable and adaptive reuse in Istanbul’s dense urban context, setting a precedent for future corporate architecture.

The redesigned façade features layered glass and illuminated fins, giving the building a refined identity while enhancing daylight performance.
Design Strategy: Working Within Constraints
With new construction restricted, the project embraced the challenge of transforming an existing, outdated structure. The design team retained the original framework but reimagined everything else—strengthening the structure, redesigning the façade, and creating a refined, efficient workplace that reflects SUMMA’s international identity.

A corridor view reflecting the interior design’s clarity and functionality—combining natural materials, acoustic comfort, and understated elegance in daily workspace circulation.
The Interior of Transformation
The interior design of SUMMA HQ brings together clarity, efficiency, and quiet elegance—reflecting the company’s international character. Open-plan workspaces are balanced with zones of privacy, while acoustic and ventilation strategies are seamlessly integrated into the architecture. Low ceiling heights, inherited from the original structure, are resolved through concealed systems and a restrained material palette, creating a calm and cohesive atmosphere throughout.
