ZIZKOV MASTER PLANNING

Czech Republic, Prague
2009

The Žižkov Master Plan is a transformative urban project, designed to enhance connectivity, revitalize public spaces, and seamlessly integrate into the city’s evolving fabric. From its inception, the planning process prioritized the re-orientation of the site, ensuring that the retail component becomes the heart of the new destination, reinforcing both functionality and livability.  A key concern was to preserve the organic flow of the existing street network, maintaining natural connections to surrounding neighborhoods rather than imposing a forced development model.

A Vision That Balances Growth and Identity

Žižkov is a historic district with a distinct urban character, and this project aims to: Strengthen linkages between existing streets and public spaces, ensuring a natural extension of the urban fabric.  Encourage acceptance by the local community, by integrating new development rather than imposing it. Foster an authentic urban environment, where residential, commercial, and public spaces coexist in a harmonious, pedestrian-friendly setting. By embracing urban sensitivity and contextual design, the master plan ensures that Žižkov’s transformation feels organic, inviting, and deeply connected to its past while preparing for its future.

A carefully integrated urban vision, shaping Prague’s future while respecting its historic fabric.
