SUSTAINABILITY

SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE

The concept of sustainable architecture emerges as an inevitable consequence of building design processes. It is known that the construction industry is responsible for %35 of greenhouse gas emissions. However, although the active-energy use is a significant optimization of architectural design processes in buildings, it explicitly seems that the principles of sustainable architecture beyond defined rules require other responsibilities. The objective of sustainable architecture in design process ranging from macro scale to micro scale is based on an economic self –sufficiency in the long term and especially for future generations. While searching its own methods, it uses local materials, infrastructure, climate, technology, any contextual data and natural resources. Avcı Architects’ special design approach focuses on eco-friendly buildings, energy efficiency as well as the production of low-cost buildings. While doing that, Avcı Architects evaluates sustainable architecture beyond what nature offers them- the studio focuses on not only a design approach for the use of people, but also the office adopts a flexible notion producing and renewing itself for the nature, called ‘deep ecology’.

Sustainable architecture is not only related to the environment, and it does not serve any time or period. It should certainly be accepted that sustainable architecture must meet the needs of future generations. We are trying to establish this balance by using our core principles: Ethics, Ecology, Economy (3E). We tackle a problem in every phase of design and scale and we use natural resources of the context addressing to sustainable architecture. As a result, Avcı Architecture’s deep ecology design approach in sustainable architecture is shaped by the natural resources derived from the context. This particular notion of Avcı Architects is always developed with democratic, flexible attitude, the long-term thinking and a sense of social responsibility.

CITIES IN SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE

How do healthy cities work? What are the qualitative and quantitative values of a healthy space? How does a singular space relate with the whole city? In which stage, this relationship creates a new phenomenon as a whole in terms of sustainability? Avcı Architects accepts a holistic approach to livable cities, and the studio considers that the design of healthy, transformative, sustainable, self-renewing and public spaces is an important part of this holistic approach. Consequently, Avcı Architects assesses cities in sustainable architecture with the new vision and development process starting from regional, urban design decisions to small interventions in order to create livable cities.

FEATURED SUSTAINABLE PROJECTS

Avcı Architects integrates all principles of sustainable architecture into every stage of projects starting from the design process to the application processes produced in various scales. Avcı Architects also design new and low-cost innovative systems for buildings as well as using sustainable architecture principles, natural resources, efficient energy, local materials and designing high-performance buildings. Thus, you can find some featured projects below that develop the most appropriate solutions for clients and users of the buildings:

PROCESS IN SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE

Avcı Architects’ design process in sustainable architecture is developed with architects, engineers, local and international experts, clients and in cooperation with other participants from many cities of the world. In this sense, we are creating a participatory, dynamic and concrete working agenda proposing a precise time management with the client’s design brief. We follow up this process with a specific framework- starting from the first sketch of the project, design, project development, project management, financial organizations to the other cooperations.

RESEARCH

Avcı Architects basic research principles are based on consulting, new design methods, techniques, particular designs derived from the natural resources in the history. In this context, the studio focuses on some sort of systemic designs formed by the natural forces, automated-technological systems and investigates the reinterpration of these systems with the cutting-edge technology depending on the structural requirements of that building. Avcı Architects is always trying to understand the essence of nature-oriented designs and their systemic orders to create an innovative solutions. In this regard, we solve these complex problems with the envisioning process developed with Urbanista. We consider sustainable architecture as a multi-layered structure of the process and evaluate it for our clients with different experts, other colleagues and participants from many countries we collaborate. This envisioning process involves a new vision and planning ranging from masterplan decisions to micro scale client and investment and its sub-parameters.

ETHICS, ECOLOGY, ECONOMY (3E)

Avcı Architects establishes the performance of sustainable actions on these three basic foundations during all of  the thinking processes: Ethics, Ecology, Economy (3E). These design principles stimulating sustainable architecture are solved by considering, analysing, discussing and implementing every stage of design process in each sub-layer of process of the project. The main condition here is that the concept of sustainable architecture should situate itself in the long term, sustainable, innovative, persistant and recreate or transfrom itself in nature without giving any harm to the natural cycle.

LEADERSHIP IN SUSTAINABILITY

Avcı Architects follows up a particular process in sustainable architecture with the integrating of natural resources increasing building performance to a maximum level. Apart from that, the studio enhances the notion of sustainability by using local materials, infrastructure, renewable sources, water, energy efficiency as a part of its holistic design approach. Avcı Architects implements these specific processes in evey stage of design by taking into consideration the client’s vision with other participants, architects and experts from diverse fields. Based on this, Avcı Architects’ sustainable approach is not based on a clear cut outcome as related to the ecological building concept of Turkey and its certification systems, which is described as a vague area of sustainable architecture. Rather than that, Avcı Architects tackles and redefines the concept of sustainable architecture in the context of its own content as an efficient process. In this case, the problem of sustainable architecture is considered as a distinctive ‘title’, applying to each step and department of Avcı Architects.

SUSTAINABLE BUILDING CONSULTANCY

Avcı Architects considers sustainable architecture as a global problem and provides a wide range of services in the strategic planning process including examination, analysis, procurement and the allotment of budget of various sustainable projects by combining with different disciplines and experts educated on this issue, which is spanned from masterplan scale to building scale.
