HANEGRAAF HOUSE

London, UK
2009

The Benin Hotel and Conference Center is conceived as a unified architectural statement, where hospitality, culture, and civic life converge. Situated on a prominent boulevard in Cotonou, the project reinterprets the site’s topography through a stepped massing and a fluid circulation strategy. A continuous canopy links diverse functions—hotel, conference, cinema, casino, and club—into a coherent spatial experience. With its integrated courtyards, panoramic views, and layered public realms, the complex defines a new typology for institutional hospitality in West Africa.

Natural light and a strong connection to the garden transform the living space into a bright and serene atmosphere.

Reinterpreting a Traditional Villa

Avcı Architects reimagined a London twin villa by transforming its traditional interiors into a modern family home. Bespoke joinery, produced in Turkey, defined the interiors, while the ground floor was opened up into a spacious living, dining, and kitchen area. The extension, framed with oak and glass, seamlessly connects the kitchen to the garden, bringing natural light and greenery into daily life.

Transforming tradition into timeless modern living—where natural light, crafted details, and fluid spaces shape a home for every generation.

Hanegraaf House blends tradition with modern family living, balancing openness, privacy, and versatility.

Spaces for Family and Flexibility

The upper floors were redesigned to reflect family needs: a master suite for the parents, children’s rooms on the first floor, and a versatile guest area above the kitchen, which doubles as a workspace. Balancing openness and privacy, Hanegraaf House stands as an example of contemporary living integrated into a traditional London context.

Natural light defines the house, filling interiors with brightness and calm.
