Museum of Beekeeping

Radovljica, Slovenia
2020

The renovation of the permanent exhibition at the Beekeeping Museum in Radovljica had to be completed very quickly and on a modest budget. The client also requested that certain elements  be reused.

The new exhibition design, including the reception, is bright and airy. The chosen material – poplar plywood – forms two types of panels: a simple horizontal continuous line carrying the exhibition content and hexagonally folded taller panels with hexagonal cut-outs that create different environments. Each space is organized around a tall “totem” – a central exhibition element that visually connects diverse exhibition themes into a unified whole.

Project Detail

The exhibition features many highlights – from the beehive reconstruction and painted beehive panels, which now stand out even more in the bright space with large-scale wall graphics, to a large globe illustrating the rich international connections and achievements of Slovenian beekeepers. The final section, developed in collaboration with Medex company, also adds another dimension.

In addition to green, the colour of nature, only violet is used – the colour in which bees see the world.
