Palazzo Dorottya embodies the fusion of historic grandeur and modern refinement. Through the complete restoration of a 19th-century palace in the heart of Budapest, Avcı Architects has created a sophisticated residential and commercial address that honors the building’s original elegance while adapting it for today’s lifestyle. From the preserved façade to the redefined inner courtyard and contemporary apartments, every detail reflects a thoughtful dialogue between past and present.

The restored street-facing façade reclaims its historic elegance while activating the urban ground plane with vibrant commercial life.

Historic Restoration & Street-Level Activation

Palazzo Dorottya’s street-facing façade was meticulously restored to preserve its original 19th-century character. While the exterior retains its classical grandeur, the ground floor was transformed into a vibrant urban interface, integrating high-end retail and amenity spaces. This contemporary activation re-establishes the building’s presence in the city, connecting heritage architecture with modern street life.

Framed by the restored interior façade, the redesigned courtyard brings daylight deep into the apartments, introducing a contemporary rhythm of transparency, privacy, and material detail within the historic shell.

Inner Courtyard & Contemporary Living

The reimagined courtyard introduces a contemporary architectural language within the historic envelope of Palazzo Dorottya—where light, transparency, and spatial clarity define a new standard for modern living. The layered façade system responds directly to the new apartment layouts, introducing rhythm and depth to the inner elevations. Generous glazing allows daylight to permeate the interiors, while carefully designed balconies, shutters, and voids foster both privacy and openness.

This inward-facing spatial strategy transforms the courtyard into a calm, bright oasis—bridging the elegance of heritage with the demands of present-day urban dwelling.
