RIMSKI VRELEC SPA HOTEL
The Rimski Vrelec Spa Hotel is a contemporary wellness retreat nestled in the forested slopes of Zreče, Slovenia — a region long known for its mineral-rich thermal springs. This project reinterprets the spa tradition through a calm, low-carbon architecture that harmonizes with the terrain, restoring not only the site’s identity, but its experience.

Perched above the forest canopy, the rooftop suites offer a secluded wellness escape—complete with private soaking decks, framed mountain views, and outdoor rituals beneath the sky. This elevated layer transforms stillness into intimacy, inviting guests to rest where air, light, and silence converge.
Reviving a Thermal Legacy — Wellness Reimagined Where Nature Heals
Rimski Vrelec Spa Hotel is conceived as a retreat nestled in the Slovenian forest, where wellness meets architecture in harmony with nature. Designed around the curative spring at the heart of the site, the hotel unfolds gently across the slope, with cascading terraces, timber façades, and green roofs blending into the landscape. Featuring spa zones, thermal pools, and a serene pond garden, the design offers a tranquil experience rooted in natural textures and quiet luxury. The architectural language emphasizes horizontal layering, light wooden shading elements, and fluid interior-outdoor transitions—evoking calmness and continuity from arrival to rest.

A design embedded in nature, not imposed on it.
Designed to breathe with its landscape, Rimski Vrelec Spa Hotel integrates sustainability through layered terraces that encourage cross ventilation, reducing the need for mechanical cooling. Sedum-covered roofs enhance thermal insulation and absorb rainfall, while the building’s orientation and deep overhangs help regulate solar exposure. Beneath the surface, a subsoil heat exchanger system supports energy-efficient climate control, minimizing environmental impact. The hotel becomes part of the forest—restful, responsive, and rooted in nature.

A restorative landscape unfolds—where architecture flows with the forest, water carves gentle paths, and light traces the rhythms of retreat.
Water as Ritual: Healing Through Flow
At Rimski Vrelec, water is not just a resource—it is memory, movement, and meaning. Emerging from the site’s historic thermal spring, it flows through spa pools, outdoor channels, and a central pond garden. Its presence is visible, audible, and sensorial—inviting guests into a quiet ritual of renewal. By designing with water, not around it, the architecture becomes part of a living hydrotherapy.

The spa is designed as a quiet sanctuary where warmth, water, and wood converge to create a deeply restorative atmosphere.
Interior Atmospheres – Silence, Light, and Transition
At Rimski Vrelec, interiors are not merely enclosed spaces—they are sequences of calm. The journey moves from the earthy textures of the lobby into hushed corridors, warm therapy zones, and softly lit spa chambers. Brushed timber, lime plaster, and tactile stone guide the senses, while acoustic layering and indirect light shape the mood. Natural ventilation and operable windows invite the forest air inside, blurring the line between built and wild. Sound, temperature, and light are orchestrated like a slow ritual—wellness here is not imposed, but unfolded.

A quiet retreat framed by nature—where soft textures, filtered light, and forest views create a room for rest.
Guest Rooms: Where Forest Meets Rest
The guest rooms at Rimski Vrelec are designed as quiet cocoons of natural comfort. Each space is framed by views of the surrounding forest, with operable windows allowing fresh air and birdsong to enter. Textured wood, mineral-toned fabrics, and soft acoustics offer a restful retreat after spa rituals. Some rooms open onto private terraces, while the rooftop suites elevate this intimacy with secluded soaking decks and panoramic mountain views. Light, silence, and air are the true luxuries here—refined, but never overstated.
