GOLDEN ELEMENTS GLOWING IN THE DARK

This tragic play by the Shakespare’s contemporary about a downward spiral caused by passion inspired a dark setting with glowing golden set elements and costumes. Large screens – Spanish walls – could create various settings of the palace, or, turned to their dark side, the lunatic asylum that provided the comic relief in the play. At times of extreme drama, like for the Murder scene or the Fire scene, the set was plunged into total darkness into which only shafts of light penetrated to barely light the gruesome action.
